Chapter 12
AN: I did some experiments with photo editing this chapter. This will continue until I settle on something I really like (and definitely something a little more subtle. It was late when I edited these).
"What time is it?" Demitri asked, moving to get up before he was pinned in place by Felicity.
"It's morning." She replied, eliciting a small laugh from Demitri.
"I know that much. Morning isn't exactly what I was looking for."

Felicity elbowed him playfully, propping herself up on Demitri's chest. "Morning is more than what you were able to come up with. How about this: it's late morning." The night before had been a late one, what with all Demitri had to say. The part that stuck in Felicity's mind was that he would be leaving soon. A sense of urgency laid underneath their playful banter. There were still things she needed to absorb, but they would have to wait. She was determined to make the most of the time they had left.
They were interrupted when Kennedy burst through the door of the bedroom. Felicity quickly rolled off of Demitri, an involuntary blush creeping over her face.
"What is going on? It's nearly one- oh." Surprise crossed Kennedy's face and was quickly replaced by recognition. "Oh. I'll go. Rosa wants to talk to you later Demitri." Kennedy exited quickly.
"I guess we'd better get up." Demitri said, stretching before get out of the bed.
"Do I have to? The floor is cold." Felicity whined. Before she could lodge any further complaints, Demitri had lifted her out of the bed and deposited her on the floor.
"Put some socks on or something. You'll live. I'll even make you breakfast."
"You do that anyway." Felicity reminded him, following Demitri out of the bedroom.

Felicity sat at the table and watched as Demitri moved around, gathering ingredients.

In just a few days he would be off having an incredibly dangerous adventure while she was forced to stay in Hidden Springs in order to keep herself safe. Felicity was not looking forward to the next few months. She barely knew Rosa and it was unlikely Kennedy would stick around. While Demitri was probably right in saying they needed to spend some time away from each other, she wished that it didn't have to be so drastic or at least not so soon.
Later that day Rosa talked to the two of them about the transportation she'd organized for Demitri, telling him he was headed to Egypt in four days to meet with one of her contacts who would help him get started on his journey to become human.

Demitri and felicity became even more inseparable. They did everything together, spending most of their time alone in Rosa's guest cabin. Rosa did manage to talk the two of them and Kennedy into watching Christmas specials with her. Rosa stared at the TV, enraptured, while Kennedy looked on in boredom.
The group was watching 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer'. Demitri had not seen before, since he never really had a reason. Felicity had not seen the movie since she was little.
Watching it gave her some painful reminders of her life before she knew about the existence of the supernatural. Remembering her past seemed rather pointless, as she couldn't return to her old life. Felicity didn't think she wanted to. It hadn't been all that great, and while there were some things she missed, explaining her absence would be impossible and Jackson would probably find her. Besides, returning to her old life would mean a life without Demitri.
The night before his departure, Demitri took a much needed hunting trip with Kennedy. Felicity decided she wanted to do something special for Demitri, so she decided to make him dinner. He wouldn't need to eat it, but he had done so much cooking for her that she thought it would be a nice gesture. Rosa helped her by supplying a candle and conjuring up some flowers for the table.
Dinner was in the oven and Demitri would be back soon. Felicity opened the oven to check on the food, a burnt smell coming out of the oven. Her hand made contact with the hot pan and Felicity yelped.
Biting her lip, Felicity slammed the oven shut. The burn was incredibly painful. She blinked back tears, not wanting to mess up her makeup or puff up her face with crying.
Rushing over to the sink, Felicity ran cold water over her hand. The cold water did little to soothe the pain. The burning smell grew stronger. Leaving the sink on, Felicity dashed back over to the oven, grabbing the oven mitts and drooping the hot pan on top of the stove. Her hand was not the only thing she had burnt; the food in the pan was charred beyond recognition. Ignoring the pain, Felicity scraped the burnt food onto a plate and put it on the table before dumping the pan in the sink and turning off the oven.
Plopping down in a chair, Felicity allowed her tears to flow freely. Instead of having a romantic dinner to think back on, Demitri's memory of their last evening together would be of this awful mess. She had ruined dinner and her hand hurt and she was frightened and she didn't want Demitri to go.
Demitri's greeting was met with silence as he entered the cabin.
Felicity sniffled and looked away from him, looking absolutely pitiful.
He took in the scene before him in silence, not needing an explanation to see what had happened. Demitri walked over to the table, gently pulling Felicity to her feet and holding her close to him. She yelped when his fingers brushed against the burn on her hand.
"I just wanted to do something special for you and... and I don't want you to go." Felicity sobbed, burying her face in Demitri's chest.
"It's okay. You don't have to do anything special for me. Having you here is enough." Demitri told her, gently stroking her hair. "I love you and I'll be back as soon as I can. I don't want you shedding any more tears over me."

Demitri did not like to cry. Showing emotion was always difficult for him and vampire tears disgusted him. They were composed of blood, not water. However, as Demitri spoke, he could not help but shed one tear of his own.
