Introduction
Felicity sat cross-legged at the floor, staring at the wall. The light from a single bulb cast a dim glow over the center of the room, leaving the corners in shadow. Felicity inhaled and counted to seven. She exhaled slowly.

The wall was blank, just like everything else in this godforsaken place. Felicity wasn't really looking at the wall. That same wall had been all she had to really look at for the past two years. Felicity knew every crack and stain better than she knew her own reflection. A person with less resolve than Felicity would have lost themselves a long time ago. To keep her sanity, Felicity remembered things. Nothing too happy- those hurt. And nothing sad if she could help it. Felicity liked to think about things that were just a little bit happy. Christmas trees and the smell of clothes just out of the dryer and wearing rainboots on the exact right day.
Felicity heard the click of a lock. The door at the top of the stairs creaked open.
She stood, backing up against the wall. If her skin was not already deathly pale, she would have blanched. Felicity was trembling. She took another deep breath in.

It was him. Jackson. Jackson was a vampire, Felicity his pet. She'd seen people come and go over the past couple of months, drained by Jackson and the vampires he shared a home with. Felicity always stayed. She often wondered if he was aging her like a bottle of wine.
He didn't always feed from her, but she could tell he was going to this time. She knew what he acted like when she was hungry.

Felicity squeezed her eyes closed as he fed. She just wanted it to be over.
When he finished Felicity collapsed, her breathing shallow. Her eyes followed Jackson closely as he left. She laid on the floor for several minutes, not trying to move. She needed to recover. Jackson's feedings were becoming more and more frequent.
As she slowly pulled herself into a sitting position, Felicity couldn't help but wonder if that was a good thing. The end was in sight.
